Mark Beretta is an Australian journalist, best known as a sports reporter on Seven Network program Sunrise. Beretta was born in Geelong, Victoria on 16 June 1966.
He was educated at St Joseph’s College and graduated from the Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne with an Engineering Degree.
Originally a water-skier, Beretta was a 10-times Australian champion of the sport. He began his media career in Geelong radio station 3GL in 1989, before moving to Triple M Melbourne.
Beretta quickly rose up through the ranks of sports broadcasting in Australia through his National Basketball League reports on Network Ten, and in 1995 the Seven Network signed him up to sports reporting role, which he continues today on Sunrise and Seven Early News. Beretta is a fill-in for David Koch on Sunrise when he is absent.
In July 2008, Beretta began presenting Seven Early News sport alongside Natalie Barr at 5.30 am, which leads to Sunrise, where he is still the sports presenter. Beretta joined with Tom Williams to host Rexona Australia’s Greatest Athlete, in 2010. In 2011, he again hosted the show, this time alongside dual international, Wendell Sailor.

David Beretta Jr., former chief executive of Uniroyal, the rubber and chemical products company, died on Monday at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was 68 and lived in Jamestown, R.I., near Newport.
The cause of death was cancer, said his wife, Serena.
Mr. Beretta started at Uniroyal as an engineer in the research division in 1953. After serving in various domestic and Canadian divisions, he was appointed a vice president for marketing in 1968, and group vice president in charge of consumer, chemical, industrial and textile operations in 1972. He was named the president and chief operating officer in 1974, and chairman and chief executive the following year.
While he was chief executive, the company weathered a 141-day strike by the United Rubber Workers union. It also began divesting itself of several operations, including its Keds footwear division, it’s Royal golf equipment company and some latex divisions, to concentrate on chemicals, plastics, and rubber products.
After leaving Uniroyal in 1982, Mr. Beretta took a teaching position as an executive in residence at the School of Business Administration of the University of Rhode Island. In 1987, he was hired as president and vice chairman of Amtrol, a manufacturer of fluid-storage tanks and flow equipment. He retired this June.
Mr. Beretta graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1949 with a degree in chemical engineering. He served in the Army during the Korean War, then joined the Uni royal.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David 3d, of East Greenwich, R.I., and Norman, of Westport, Conn.; a daughter, Dr. Martha Mainiero of North Kingstown, R.I., and five grandchildren.

Mark formerly co-hosted Sunrise with former Nine News presenter and current Today host Georgie Gardner from 2000 to 2002. From 2002 to mid-2004 he moved to present the sport on Seven News in Sydney.
Beretta hosted the coverage of the 1998 Nagano, 2000 Sydney and 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games, as well as the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.

In 2010, he completed a 1,400 km Tour de Cure bike ride from Sydney to Mooloolaba over ten days, which raised $1.8 million to help find a cure for cancer. Mark also completed the 2011 Tour De Cure ride over 1,400 km from Sydney to Melbourne, raising over $2 million for cancer research and treatment.
In 2011, he was appointed to the board of Tour De Cure. Beretta completed his third Tour de Cure ride in 2012, covering the longest ever distance of 1,656 km, from Brisbane to Mission Beach, in 10 days to raise over $2.2 million for cancer research, treatment, and prevention.
He won his first Australian water ski championship in the Junior Boys Jump event in 1980, at Glenelg in Adelaide.
Beretta represented Victoria for 16 years, winning 10 Australian water ski championships.
Beretta was part of the Water Ski Show at World Expo 88 in Brisbane.
Beretta coached water skiing in the US and Japan. He was a coach of the Japanese Team in 1989.
After graduating from Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, he worked for BHP and Honeywell.
