Ross Barton star Michael Parr SLAMS claims over exit as he opens up on leaving
Emmerdale cast member Michael Parr, who plays Ross Barton in the ITV soap, has spoken out about the reason for his exit on Twitter.
The 31-year-old confirmed he will be departing from Emmerdale in the near future on Twitter yesterday.
But today, the actor was forced to hit back at reports which suggested his reason could be due to the amount of make-up he has been wearing in recent scenes.
The character recently took on a starring role in the soap, which saw the former mechanic being involved in a horrific acid attack – prompting the need for the stage make-up.
Meanwhile, another rumour suggested Michael could be set to make a shock career move following his departure – after a source claimed he was considered taking up Mixed Martial Arts.
However, the actor has poured cold water on both suggestions, as he firmly denied both claims on Twitter this evening.
In a tweet shared with his 139,000 followers, Michael wrote: “Would just like to state the I’m not leaving Emmerdale because of the make up or because I’m going to become a professional MMA fighter.
“It’s just time for a change… although we all know I could be heavy weight champ if I wanted to be.”
Fans rushed to show their support for the star, with one commenting: “I’m sure you could! Gutted that you’re leaving, hope they keep you alive so you can come back if you want to, good luck in whatever you do and for the awards, I voted for ya and well just thanks for being Ross, what a journey it has been!”(sic)
“Of course you could laddo, you will be missed though, wait till you get your best actor award,”(sic) gushed another.
A third told the star: “Keep us posted as to what you do next. Keen to follow what you do next. Good luck.”
A fourth fan penned: “You could be who ever you want to be but I will miss you so much.”
It came after a source told The Sun: “I’m told that Mike is now thinking about trying something completely different – Mixed Martial Arts.
“Mike does a weekly podcast about MMA with actor pal Adam Fielding.
“Now he’s seeing if he can make it as a MMA fighter.”
Yesterday, the Merseyside-born star confirmed he would be quitting his role as Ross after joining the hit series back in July 2013.
Making the announcement on Twitter, Michael said: “Yes I’ll be leaving the soap soon. Have had the best few years at Emmerdale but it’s time to move on and explore other avenues.
“If I win that soap award I might stay though,” he teased.
Meanwhile, acting series producer Kate Brooks told The Sun: “Michael Parr will leave Emmerdale later this year at the end of his current contract.
“His decision to pursue other acting opportunities has given the writing team the opportunity to create an intriguing storyline for his exit.
“Michael, who is nominated for Best Actor at the British Soap Awards next month, will leave the show on a high after brilliantly portraying Ross for five years.”
