Rachel Ward Biography
Rachel Ward known as Rachel Claire Ward born on 12th September 1957, is an English-born Australian actress, columnist, film director, television director and screenwriter. She is an actress and director, known for Against All Odds in 1984, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid in 1982 and On the Beach in 2000.
She is the daughter of Claire Leonora (née Baring) and the Hon. Peter Alistair Ward. Her grandfathers were William Ward, 3rd Earl of Dudley and the cricketer Giles Baring. Ward is also the great-granddaughter of William Ward, 2nd Earl of Dudley, Governor-General of Australia 1908–11 and sister of environmental campaigner and former actress Tracy Louise Ward, Marchioness of Worcester. She attended Hatherop Castle School, Hatherop, Gloucestershire, then the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. She left school at age 16 to become a fashion and photography model. She briefly dated David Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy
She was awarded the A.M. (Member of the Order of Australia) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June 2005 for “raising awareness of social justice through lobbying, mentoring and advocacy for the rights of disadvantaged and at-risk young people”.
