In the summer of 2017, Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United from Everton in a deal reported to be worth £75million.
The Belgian signed a five-year contract at the Old Trafford with the option for a further 12 months.
He enjoyed a fine debut season in Manchester, scoring 27 goals in all competitions before going on to help Belgium reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
He scored twice for his country in the 2-1 Nations League win over Switzerland. This lifted him to 45 goals in 78 internationals, ensuring a bright end to a bad week for Belgian football in which 19 people, including two referees, soccer agents and the coach of champions Club Bruges, were charged with fraud or match-fixing.
Lukaku now returns to club football with United where a showdown with Chelsea in the Premier League awaits this weekend.
But it has been a turbulent campaign for the Red Devils so far as uncertainty continues to linger over the future of boss Jose Mourinho.
Lukaku was asked by Gazzetta dello Sport if he would be open to a move to Italy’s Serie A in the future.
He replied: “Why not? I hope it happens.”
Lukaku also talked up Champions League rivals Juventus, whom United face following Saturday’s Premier League clash with the Blues.
“Juve have a great project in place and they just keep going. Every year they try to get stronger,” the striker added.
“Without doubt, Juve are one of the two or three best teams in Europe.
“They’ve got a great coach on the bench and extraordinary players in every area of the team.
“Cristiano Ronaldo stands out, but watch out for the others too.
“Paulo Dybala is already impressive and getting stronger, while I love Douglas Costa.”
