His new TV show is about living. Even privately, Sven Epiney is a passionate handyman. With his partner Michael Graber he talks about his own four walls and about their future.
Neo and Leny are waving happily at the door. For five years, the Prague Rattler complete the men’s household of SRF presenter Sven Epiney, 46, and Michael Graber, 25th Here in Zurich lives the radio and TV man for ten years. His partner Michael moved in seven years ago, after just three months of relationship.
Sven Epiney and Michael Graber, what changed here in your home when Michael moved in?
Michael Graber: Almost everything!
Sven Epiney: No, no (laughs).
Graber: Yes, you had no wallpaper, little color. Everything was white and completely different furnished.
Epiney: Over the past few years, we’ve been changing over and trying out new things. I think it’s important that we both feel comfortable and set up the home together.
Graber: Sven really asks me if I like it. When I’m not there, he sends me photos and vice versa.
What is your home like?
Epiney: What could be better than coming home and feeling safe? We dive into our oasis, can dim the light and create the right ambience.
Graber: Many candles create a mood. Light, music and scents complete the feeling.
Scented candles are burning on the saloon table, and Ed Sheeran can be heard from the speakers via mobile phone stream . “When we clean, it’s classic,” says Michael. Living is not just a private topic for them. Epiney will soon host the new TV program “Who lives where?”. Five protagonists have to find out by mutual question which home belongs to whom. “It’s exciting to immerse yourself in the world of living and to give advice,” says the moderator.
Where do you like to live at home?
Epiney: What would you say?
Graber: On quiet Sundays we love to just lie down and read.
Epiney: And moaning in bed.
Who brings the breakfast?
Graber: Sven. And every Sunday that we have free.
Epiney: There’s nothing missing. Avocados, poached eggs on toast, cheese, bread … Otherwise Michael cooks more often, even if it is our common hobby and our passion. He just can do it better, and I learn a lot from him.
Graber: Oh, that’s nice! Our dining table made of walnut wood is my favorite place. Sven and I are looking to eat together as often as possible. I used to do that with my family. That’s our quality time. The mobile phones are then on the side.
Apartment, kitchen, guest toilet – cleanliness and order prevail everywhere. In the sink there is no glass, the photos on the magnetic wall in the kitchen are carefully arranged, even the dog basket is tidy. «We agree on the budget and are very similar. There’s little Zoff potential here, “they say.
Do not you have any issues like an open toothpaste tube?
Epiney: Yes. Michael needs a lot of laundry. Mountains of clothes! (Laughs) Oh, do you even want me to say that?
Graber: That’s right.
And who washes the clothes?
Graber: Both, but Sven “smoothes”.
And otherwise both are doing everything?
Graber: We also have a cleaning aid, but we both really do everything.
Epiney: In the common areas, both should feel well and keep order, because we often have friends and family as guests. But each of us has our own office. A room where everyone is allowed to act as he wishes.
Graber: There’s more puff in your office.
Epiney: That’s right, but I like everything! I call it a creative mess (laughs).
On the lower floor was her “Puffzimmer” for two years. Crates of boxes, garden furniture, sports equipment and countless DVDs towered here. “So a full room puts a strain on the well-being,” says Michael. Therefore, within two weeks – despite full agenda – they have cleared out the 18 and 9 square meter rooms, painted walls in beige-gray tone with their own hands and conjured up a spacious office and guest rooms in an industrial look.
“The great thing is that you can live it out creatively,” says Sven. “Changing things at home is not that difficult. Often you can do a lot with trifles. A color on the wall gives a room a new look with relatively little effort. »
Who is artisanal?
Graber: Definitely Sven. He loves working at home.
Epiney: People do not think that about me, but I have a whole workbench of equipment. Already in Lehrersemi I took two free lessons in addition to the four obligatory lessons in the works. In DIY stores I could spend hours. That’s totally mine!
Graber: I prefer to go shopping for decorations and plants. I would like to have some with big, leathery leaves in the living room, but Sven does not find that nice. In the garden and on the terrace, however, a lot of green is growing.
Two quick, snappy sounds join the conversation and Ed Sheeran’s pop song. The eight small paws of Neo and Leny provide on the wooden floor of Swiss oak again and again for ambience and life in the rooms.
Home, dogs – are still missing children …
Epiney (calls): Jenny, come on, it will ask for you! (Laughs.)
Graber: Seriously, children are less of an issue with us. The dogs are already a great responsibility for many years. And I prefer goddess.
Epiney: I have four godchildren. The first Göttimeitli is already out of the goddess, the youngest is three years old. Our house is not child-free.
Graber: That’s great.
What keeps you from marriage?
Graber: That we are not allowed to marry in Switzerland yet! Registering is not the same thing.
Epiney: We hope that marriage will soon become a reality for all of us. Everything else we have clarified and mutually secured as much as possible. A further reason why we have so far had no time for celebration is that we have changed a lot in the house.
Graber: In addition, many close friends have married. Our time has not come yet.
How are you committed to the rights of homosexuals?
Epiney: The fact that we stand in public and show how we live is a clear statement.
Graber: We talk a lot personally with people and explain why equal rights are important. We do not take anything away from anyone, nobody loses anything, even though we are allowed to marry.
Epiney: We are human like everyone else and then we get the same rights. C’est tout!
