He landed his first national job as a child model on a computer game box cover of Milton Bradley at the age of 12. The year was 1977 and the game was Comp IV. While growing up he appeared in a variety of television commercials and was cast as an extra in the ABC TV mini-series “The Kennedy’s of Massachusetts”
While attending Westfield State College in Westfield, MA, he landed his first professional on-air broadcasting job. WLDM-AM gave him his large break behind the mic as a “disk jockey.” That led to a Dj job on Cape Cod-WPXC-FM in his home town. Doug’s first television work was simultaneously at a tiny town-wide cable station-Cape 11 News. He began as a non-paying intern and worked his way up.
From there he received a job at New England News as a “one-man-band”–a 24-hour regional cable news channel. He also worked as a photographer/editor at WHDH-TV (NBC) in Boston. That resulted in a reporter/anchor job at WPRI-TV (CBS) in Providence, RI. Next was to pack his bags for what would be Texas ‘ first of two employment.
The morning and 5 pm newscasts were anchored at KEYE-TV (CBS) in Austin Doug. Then he was the host of the #1 rated “Good Morning Texas” on WFAA-TV (ABC) in Dallas. Doug served as a weekend anchor on WTSP-TV (CBS) in Tampa, FL between lone star stops. In his career, a surprising twist led him back to Boston. Doug created the history of television in Boston as the first full-time reporter of TV helicopters in the process. His additional duties include Hollywood coverage and FOX station entertainment. Among his assignments, the Los Angeles, London, and Berlin Red Carpets report.
