In pursuit for her interest in theatre, Fisher headed to New York City, where she subsequently enjoyed a 14-year stage career in regional and off-Broadway productions. She moved to Abingdon, Virginia, where she started her acting career at the Barter Theatre, a year-round repertory theatre.
Fisher gained prominence for playing Detective Deborah Saxon on the ABC daytime soap opera The Edge of Night from 1976 until 1981. She later became part of the cast of CBS’s Guiding Light as Suzette Saxon in 1985.
She made her film debut in 1983 in Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?. She was then featured in Patty Hearst directed by Paul Schrader. She was cast in Pink Cadillac opposite Clint Eastwood in 1989 and the following year she starred in Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael.
