Franka enrolled at the Otto Falckenberg School of Performing Arts in Munich after finishing high school. She took acting jobs outside school time. Her first appearance was in the 1995 student film Aufbruch. Franka was spotted by a casting agent. She was cast in the film Nach Fünf im Urwald (After Five in the Forest Primeval). The film was directed by her then-boyfriend, Hans Christian Schmid. There she portrayed the role of a 17-year-old girl named Anna.
