Desire Luzinda Interview
Desire talks about her regrets and finding God
September 25, 2018Written by Johnson Grace Magana
At what point did you decide to get born-again?
I have always been born-again, only that I lived a double-standards life. I chose to take the life of salvation seriously this year. And I profess the Lord [Jesus] as my savior, 100 percent.
What is different about you now?
I went to church to thank God for what He had done for me, only to find peace in the church. I went into a transition; a state I never planned to get myself into. The peace I felt compelled me to stay in the church. That decision has taken me three years.
Hmm; do you have a favorite Bible verse?
I have too many verses that speak to my soul and affirm His word for my calling. However, Romans 8:1 says, ‘there is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus’.
Some people don’t believe you are really born-again.
I am not here to prove to anyone whether I am born-again or not. Salvation is personal and everything is proven with time.
Which church do you fellowship with?
I fellowship from Phaneroo Ministries.
Do you see yourself starting your own church someday?
You do not just wake up and start a church. The Lord leads you and if He leads me to do that, why not?
Are you giving up on secular music?
Yes, I intend to stop singing secular music, that is why Transition was my last album in the secular world.
Where do you draw your strength from, Desire?
My strength comes from the fear to fail. Having received too much negativity and scorn, I have become immune to external pressure but rather grown the strength to fight and shine against all odds.
What advice do you give to young girls that look up to you?
Young girls who look up to me now is the time to listen to my story. Relate and use it for [your] own good and don’t become victims or make wrong decisions.
What is the “Girls and Goals” campaign about?
It is a campaign I have started to use my story to help the young generation make the right choices when chasing their dreams; a campaign to fight stigma and depression that is caused by the pressures of girls wanting to look rich instead of working hard to attain the wealth; a campaign that preaches hope to the depressed.
Do you regret some things in life, Desire?
I used to regret it before I became born-again, but now I don’t. All that was done is gone, and a new me was created.
Still, if you could change just one thing…?
I wouldn’t change a thing about my life, because everything happened for a reason. Even on a battlefield, for victory to take place, some lives have to be lost. I am a sacrifice to many and that is why I am ready to tell my story to help someone out there.
If you were to be marooned on a desert island, what is the one thing you would ask for?
Everyone would ask for water but it could run out and you’d still be stuck in the desert. I would seek God because He makes a way where there seems to be no way
