Mathis is the current meteorologist for WTVF NewsChannel 5. She became part of the Storm 5 weather team in August 2017 from WAAY-TV where she served as an executive producer.

Heather was brought up in Mt. Juliet watching the Channel 5 News. She witnesses the fatal April 1998 tornado outbreak across Middle Tennessee that fueled her passion for meteorology.

Mathis began chasing storms and tracking tornadoes in Jackson, TN, at WBBJ-TV. She later joined WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Alabama. As a Nashville native, she understands how important keeping the community safe and informed during severe weather is.
