Ellis was born on July 5, 1968, in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia, where he was a member of the football team and the ROTC program. After graduating from high school in 1986, Ellis went to the University of Southern California (USC), where he majored in political science. Ellis is a military veteran, television personality, and documentary filmmaker. He was born on July 5, 1968 in Alexandria, Virginia. Ellis began his career as a naval aviator, serving in the United States Navy from 1990 to 2003. He flew F/A-18 Hornets and was a member of the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. In 2002, Ellis appeared on the reality TV show Survivor: Marquesas. He placed sixth in the competition.
After leaving the Navy, Ellis began working as a television host. He hosted several shows for the History Channel, including Tactical to Practical, Man, Moment, Machine, and Digging for the Truth. He also hosted the CW reality show In Harm’s Way. In 2011, Ellis became a news anchor for KEYE-TV news in Austin, Texas. He left KEYE-TV in 2014 to focus full-time on documentary filmmaking.
