J.R. Berry an American journalist who was born and brought up in Sumter, South Carolina, United States of America. Currently, he works at WLTX-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, as a news anchor, anchoring the station’s evening newscasts. He has called WLTX-TV home since May of 1991. From 1997 until September 2002, Berry anchored News 19’s Morning and Noon News programs. He then moved to the evenings and now anchors News 19 at 6, 7 and 11.
Berry has been recognized for his work with 3 Emmy awards and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award. He has also been honored by the Associated Press for Investigative Reporting, Spot News, and Documentary work.

Berry started his broadcast career working in radio in 1977. J.R. then joined WLTX-TV in 1990 as a general assignment reporter, reporting from Saudi Arabia on Fort Jackson and Shaw Air Force Base personnel serving in the first Gulf War. From 1994-96, Berry also anchored morning news for Columbia radio station WVOC.
Berry became WLTX-TV’s morning news anchor in 1998, and in 2002 moved into his current role as evening news anchor. He is very involved in the community and has received numerous awards and citations for his community service.
