Bolam made his first television appearance in the 1960s when he featured in the movies such as ‘A Kind of Loving’, ‘The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, and ‘Inheritance’ where he starred alongside. John Thaw is an English actor who has starred in a number of television, stage, and film roles, his most famous being television series such as Inspector Morse, Redcap, and The Sweeney.
James’breakthrough came when he portrayed the role of Terry Collier in ‘The Likely Lads where he featured Rodney Bewes as Bob Ferris. He also constructed scripts for the BBC Radio version after he became famous. Prior to the release of ‘Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads, a British Sitcom which was broadcast between 9 January 1973 and 9 April 1974 on BBC1, James featured in Half a Sixpence (1967), Otley (1969), and O Lucky Man! (1973).
The recovered series, narrating the further adventures Bob and Terry, carried on for two weeks broadcast in 1973 and 1974 and a 45-minute 1974 Christmas Eve special. Bolam starred together with the original cast of BBC Radio series adjusted from the 1973 TV series and in 1976, there were a greater reunion in the spin-off, a feature film from the series,’ The Likely Lads’.
In 1976, Bolam came back to acting and starred in the television series When ‘The Boat Comes in as Jack Ford, a series which ran till 1981. Thereafter, he has appeared mostly in comedies and several comedy dramas including ‘Only When I Laugh’ and The Beiderbecke Affair’.
Bolam still works in the theatre and also on television. He appeared on Bomber’s Moon in the spring of 2015 a play by William Ivory at the Park Theatre, Finsbury Park, London.
James Bolam and Rodney Bewes Feud
James’co-actor Rodney Bewes disclosed in 2005 that the two of them had not spoken for a period of thirty years since the movie ”The Likely Lads’ was made. According to Bowes, the feud developed when he informed a journalist that when Bolam’s wife informed her husband that she was pregnant, Bolam was so surprised that he mounted his car on the pavement and almost collided with a lamp post. Bowes denied the claims of their feud when Bowes died in 2017.
