Widdoes was born on 15 November 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. He studied at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut, and graduated in 1972. He is also a member of their board of trustees. He studied his acting profession during college, starring in a production of The New Amen Show at the Diners Playhouse in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1974.
He then attended Skidmore College in 1972 and then transferred to New York University’s Tisch School of Arts, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. While in New York, he roomed with such soon-to-be-famous actors as Michael O’Keefe from Caddyshack and The Great Santini.
Rise to Fame
Widdoes made his film debut in 1977 in the comedy film The Kentucky Fried Movie. In 1978, he starred as Robert Hoover in National Lampoon’s Animal House, which became a cult classic. Animal House was a huge success, and Widdoes’ performance as Hoover was particularly well-received. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role.
