Currently, she is the owner of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team alongside her spouse, Tony Ressler. Previously, before founding Atlanta, Gertz was cast in several movies, including Twister (1996), Square Pegs (1980), Less than Zero (1987), and Quicksilver (1986).

Gertz also had roles in the CBS sitcom Still Standing as Judy Miller and in the ABC sitcom The Neighbors, portraying Debbie Weaver.

She was brought up in Conservative Judaism, alongside her two siblings, Michael Gertz and Scott Gertz, and attended Maine East High School, where she attained her diploma.

Gertz was discovered in a national talent search by Norman Lear and enrolled at New York University, where she pursued a career in drama. As a child actor, she was in one episode of Diff’rent Strokes alongside Andrew Dice Clay.
