Jarrett Stidham born Jarrett Ryan Stidham is an American football quarterback for Auburn University. For his college career, he began it at Baylor University. Stidham started three games as a true freshman after his season ended with an injury to starting quarterback Seth Rusell.

He transferred to McLennan Community College after his freshman year. Despite him joining the team, he did not play football in his one semester at the school.

Jarrett Stidham Senior Bowl

Stidham entered his true freshman year at Baylor in 2015 as the backup to Seth Russell. He appeared in the first seven games, completing 24 of 28 passes for 331 yards and six touchdowns. After Russell suffered a season-ending neck injury during Baylor’s seventh game, Stidham took over as the starter.

He started his first career game against Kansas State. He finished the game completing 23 of 33 passes for 419 yards, three passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown. In his second career start against Oklahoma, Stidham injured his back in the first quarter, but he was able to remain in the game.

He finished the game completing 16 of 27 for 257 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the 44–34 loss. The following week, despite being questionable to play leading up to the game, Stidham made his third career start against Oklahoma State.

He injured his hand and ankle in the first half of the game and did not return to the field for the second half. On November 25, 2015, Baylor head coach Art Briles announced that Stidham’s ankle injury was a chipped bone in the back of his ankle and Stidham would be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season.

It was reported that Stidham might be able to return for Baylor’s bowl game, but on December 19, Briles announced Stidham would miss the 2015 Russell Athletic Bowl. In the wake of a sexual abuse scandal at the school and the firing of much of the coaching staff, on July 7, 2016, Stidham announced he would be transferring from Baylor.

Mel Kiper high on former Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham

Count ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. as another expert in Jarrett Stidham corner.

The former Auburn quarterback is coming off a strong week at the Senior Bowl, where he was named executive director Jim Nagy’s quarterback of the week heading into the all-star event in late January.

One week before the NFL Combine, Stidham picked up more positive press from Kiper, a longtime NFL Draft analyst.

“I thought he impressed (in Mobile), and (ESPN analyst) Louis Riddick even pointed it out yesterday that we were talking about that Stidham kind of got his attention on the field at Senior Bowl practices more than any other quarterback down there,” Kiper told reporters on a conference call Tuesday, according to AL.com. “It was Stidham who got Louis to really say, ‘Hey, move him up and get him into that discussion as a quarterback who’s underrated.’”

At least two quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl were projected to be selected in the first round: Missouri’s Drew Lock and Duke’s Daniel Jones, according to WalterFootball.com. Stidham is projected as a second-round pick by the same service.

Kiper believes Stidham is a second-round prospect who will not fall further than the third round.

“I think Stidham, when he was at Baylor and then Auburn, it showed that he could — at one point, I thought he could be a first- or second-round pick, so he’s got talent,” Kiper said. “I don’t think he gets out of the third round. It wouldn’t shock me if he went mid-to-late second, so he’s going to be up there.”

Stidham is coming off a down year at Auburn in which he threw for 2,794 yards and 18 touchdowns against five interceptions. He declared for the NFL Draft before the Tigers played in the Music City Bowl, where he threw for 373 yards and five touchdowns on 15 of 21 passing. Auburn scored 63 points, the most ever by an SEC team in a bowl game, in the 49-point win against Purdue.

Stidham’s completion percentage year to year dropped nearly 6 percent after he threw for 3,158 yards during the Tigers’ SEC West championship season in 2017. NFL teams at the Senior Bowl asked him about the drop.

“I tell them, I mean look, I think if we were to go back and redo the entire season from fall camp, I think we’d approach the season a little bit like we do the bowl game and open everything up,” Stidham told reporters at the Senior Bowl, according to AL.com. “Obviously, that was our most successful game, so I think there’s something to be said for that. That’s sort of my answer.”

Stidham told reporters in Mobile this week he believes “adversity” separates him from other quarterbacks on the field. He didn’t elaborate, however, when he said he’s “faced a lot of adversity in my life, on and off the field.”

Stidham is training with former quarterback Jordan Palmer in California. Stidham said at the Senior Bowl he is working primarily on his footwork and the typical three- and five-step drops in the NFL, which is something Auburn did not utilize.

Stidham fumbled twice in the Senior Bowl.

As for his strengths?

“I think my ability to throw the ball,” he said, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. “Being able to make every single throw, regardless of whether it’s a shallow crossing route or a deep post or an out-cut from the opposite hash. I think I can make all the throws and put the ball where I want it to be.”
