Early Singing Career
Before venturing into his singing career, Jason was working under several musicians. First, he worked as a bassist, David Hood- co-founder Patterson Hood. This was because David performed in clubs at Florence, Alabama on Friday and Saturday nights.
This resulted in long-lasting friendships and also mentorship from David Hood which later shaped his career. After a short while, Jason began yielding demos which got him a deal with FAME Studious of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Years later after working with FAME as a songwriter, Jason joined the Drive-By Truckers band. At first, Isbell had joined to help them with their Southern Rock Opera Album. Later on, Dick Cooper introduced Jason to Patterson Hood.
His first performance was when the guitarist, Rob Malone, did not show up. Since then, he helped in the making of 3 following albums, 2003’s Decoration Day, 2004’s The Dirty South, and 2006’s A Blessing and a Curse.
