Jerrold Nadler Congress
Washington, D.C., House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) sent a letter to Scott Lloyd(former head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)) requesting that he clarify statements made during his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on 26th February 2019.

Dear Mr. Lloyd,
Thank you for appearing before the House Judiciary Committee on 26th February 2019. Last month’s hearing was an important first step for Congress and the American people to gain more clarity on the processes and decision-making procedures behind the Trump Administration’s family separation policy.
At that hearing, our Members expressed concern about your conduct as head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
They asked you specifically and repeatedly about reports that you had compiled spreadsheets to track the pregnancies and menstrual cycles of young women in your care.
We were troubled by your responses at the time—but we now have reason to believe that your responses are inconsistent with documentation that has been made public since your testimony. We ask that you make yourself available to the Committee to clarify your testimony as soon as possible, but no later than 12th April 2019.
When we meet, two issues require your careful attention.
First, Representative Madeleine Dean asked you multiple times if you had “tracked the menstrual cycles of young girls, young women in your custody.” You responded: “That is not an accurate characterization of what occurred. I am not sure what exactly you are referring to.”
Representative Dean then followed up: “It is a yes or no. Did you track—did you create any kind of tracking mechanism.
”You responded: “I don’t have a yes or no answer for that question…” before proceeding to describe a document which lists pregnant girls in ORR care and how long they have been pregnant.
Representative Dean then asked you directly: were you “denying that you tracked the menstrual cycles of young women in your custody.”You responded: “I am denying that I tracked menstrual cycles of women in my custody.”
Since your testimony, a 28-page document listing young women who were pregnant in ORR custody has been made public.
In that document, at your direction, ORR appears to have been tracking deeply personal information about women aged 12 through 17—including whether their pregnancy was a result of consensual sex, “gestational age,” and the last known menstrual cycle of the women in your custody.
Second, Representative Dean also asked you: “Isn’t it true that you personally visited pregnant minors to pressure them to continue their pregnancies?”You responded: “No, that is not true.”
However, in a deposition given on 18th December 2017, you admitted that you did visit at least one pregnant unaccompanied minor while she was in ORR custody.
In that deposition, you also admitted to speaking on the phone with at least one other pregnant unaccompanied minor where the topic of abortion was discussed.
Given these inconsistencies, I have asked my staff to work with yours to give you an opportunity to clarify these and other matters on a voluntary basis. Failing that, we would expect to pursue a date and time for a formal deposition.
Thank you.

Nadler reaches a deal to interview former White House, Staffer
June 24 (UPI) — The House judiciary committee reached an agreement Monday with Annie Donaldson, the former chief of staff for former White House counsel Donald McGahn, to give testimony before the panel.
The committee issued a subpoena for Donaldson and former communications director Hope Hicks to appear for a hearing related to an investigation into potential obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power in the White House. They also sought documents from the two women.
Donaldson was due to appear Monday for a hearing, but Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said there were concerns about her ability to travel and testify because she is in her third trimester of pregnancy.
Under the agreement, Donaldson will appear for testimony after Nov. 1, provide answers to written questions within a week of receiving them and inform the committee whether the White House provided her documents.
Nadler said he was happy to reach an agreement with Donaldson.
“We understand that Ms. Donaldson’s pregnancy makes it difficult for her to travel and testify for long periods of time, and we worked on finding accommodation to those needs and restrictions,” he said.
“Ms. Donaldson had a front row seat to many of the instances outlined in the Mueller Report dealing with President Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice and other abuses of power, which is why she is a key witness for the Committee in our ongoing work to hold the President, his associates, and members of his Administration accountable.”
Earlier this month, the White House instructed Donaldson and Hicks not to hand over any documents related to their work within the Trump administration.
Hicks testified before the committee Wednesday, but Justice Department officials largely blocked her from answering questions about her time in the Trump administration.
