Jim Davis Biography
Jim Davis is an American cartoonist, best known as the creator of the comic strips Garfield and U.S. Acres (a.k.a. Orson’s Farm). Garfield was published since 1978, was and still is, one of the world’s most widely syndicated comic strips. He has also done other comics like Tumbleweeds, Gnorm Gnat and Mr. Potato Head.
He wrote or co-wrote all of the Garfield TV specials for CBS, originally broadcast between 1982 and 1991. He is also the producer of the Garfield & Friends Saturday Morning series, which aired on the channel from 1988 to 1994. Moreover, Davis was still the writer and executive producer for a series of CGI direct-to-video feature films about Garfield, as well as an executive producer for the CGI animated TV series The Garfield Show.

Prior to making Garfield, Davis worked for associate degree agency, and in 1969, he began helping Tom Ryan’s caricature, Tumbleweeds. He then created a comic book strip, Gnorm Gnat, that ran for 5 years within the Pendleton Times, associate degree American state newspaper.
When Davis tried to sell it to a national caricature syndicate, associate degree editor told him: “Your art is nice, your gags are nice, however, bugs—nobody will relate to bugs!” On June 19, 1978, Garfield started syndication in forty-one newspapers. Today it’s syndicated in a pair of,580 newspapers and is scan by some three hundred million readers daily.
In the Eighties, Davis created the yard slapstick caricature, U.S. Acres. Outside the U.S., the strip was called Orson’s Farm.
Davis, together with Brett Koth, additionally created a 2000–03 strip supported the man. Potato Head toy. Davis based the prof Garfield Foundation to support children’s skill.
His influences embody Mort Walker’s Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois, Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts, Milton Caniff’s Steve Canyon and Johnny Hart’s B.C.
