Jodi Balfour The Crown
Apple launched its new streaming service Apple TV+ on Friday so you’ve had all weekend to discover their new original series. For All Mankind is a historical science fiction show. It’s about the NASA space race to the moon, only in this alternate history, Russia got there first so NASA is trying to catch up. Jodi Balfour, perhaps best known for playing Jackie Kennedy on an episode of The Crown, plays Ellen Waverly, one of the female astronaut candidates in the early ‘70s.
It turns out Jackie Kennedy and an astronaut aren’t as different as you might think, at least not when it comes to acting. Jodi Balfour spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet last week about her role on For All Mankind. When we asked if it compared to playing Jackie Kennedy, Balfour agreed it did. Season 1 of For All Mankind is now available on Apple TV+.
Jodi Balfour brought a lot of her Jackie Kennedy work into For All Mankind.
“Very similar time period and I had done swaths of research on America in the ‘60s for that,” Balfour said. “Particularly being a privileged hetereosexual woman in a marriage or societal confines, particularly for Jackie that was deeply relevant. Obviously because her marriage to JFK and the whole episode is really about peeking behind closed doors so any kind of documentary that tells certain facts of what Jackie’s personal life was like, I really just immersed myself in understanding the period, the context in which her life was taking place.”
Jodi Balfour Accent The Crown
Balfour Perfected Her Jackie Kennedy Accent With Nursery Rhymes.A middle-aged woman so incurious, unintelligent, and unremarkable that Britain’s new reduced place in the world was not a surprise but an inevitability.” This is just one of the many scathing insults Jackie Kennedy hurls against Queen Elizabeth in The Crown’s new season, effectively switching up the show’s homegrown monarchical drama into something a little bit more, ahem, Yankee-Doodle.
But what ensues between Jackie and the Queen is less about petty revenge — that grand ol’ welcome to Windsor Castle notwithstanding — and more about how these two powerful women have a lot more in common than they’d care to admit.
Jodi Balfour As Jackie Kennedy

Jodi Balfour Wedding
The beautiful Jodi Balfour is happily in a dating relationship with handsome Alex Ashbaugh, an actor and a writer along with being food and environmental enthusiast. However, the dating history remains unknown to their admirers as the couple had not spilled the beans on how and when they met.
Nevertheless, Jodi and Alex timely flaunt their relationship in their social media accounts by posting adorable pictures and quoting out the affection for each other.
Jodi’s recent post with her boyfriend comprises a video that she Instagrammed on 25th February 2018. In the video, the love-birds are in a wedding ceremony in Chicago, and they appear to be happily dancing while holding their drinks.
Moreover, on 19th May 2017, Alex uploaded a picture where he can be spotted holding Jodi’s hands during their visit to Pope’s old vacation home. Gushing about their humor, Alex, via the caption, claimed that he was laughing at his joke while Jodi rolled her eyes.
Interestingly, not only in real life, but the duo also portrayed the roles as a couple in reel life. In the movie Milwaukee, Jodi and Alex acted to be the on-screen match as Beans and Sam respectively.
Jodi Balfour For All Mankind
For All Mankind has endless possibilities when it comes to storytelling. The Apple TV+ series explores what would have happened if the space race had never ended. This “what if” take on history will focus on the lives of astronauts, engineers, and their families. One of NASA’s main focuses is sending a woman into space, so that shifts the dynamics of the characters quite a bit. HollywoodLife sat down EXCLUSIVELY with Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, Wrenn Schmidt, and Jodi Balfour to talk about what we can expect from this alternate history series.
Sarah plays Tracy Stevens, whom she calls a “reluctant housewife.” Tracy is the wife of astronaut Gordo Stevens. Sarah says that Tracy has “put any sort of ambition she had that might’ve been her own to the side, banking on the notion that her husband would probably have more of a chance of becoming an astronaut or getting to the moon.” Once she joins the astronaut training program, Sarah teases that the “tides start to turn, things start to shift, and she starts to recognize herself as an individual.”
Jodi, who plays Ellen Waverly, adds that Tracy’s “realization that this is actually something she wants for herself is such a wonderful conduit for taking us into sort of the way the world changes when the women joined the program.” Ellen is a fellow trainee alongside Tracy. “I feel like you don’t really think much of her for a little while,” Jodi says. “And then, slowly but surely, I could sort of create a space for myself in the overall narrative. And suddenly you realize you’re learning so much about this woman and that there’s far more than the eye sees initially. I feel like my storyline really becomes about, and everybody’s is to an extent, the sacrifices people make in order to be at NASA and do what they want to do. There’s a lot of personal sacrifices she endures in order to be an astronaut.”
