He opted to sign with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) instead. Theismann ALSO played for the Argonauts from 1971 to 1973, winning two Grey Cup championships and making CFL All-Star honors in his last season. He joined the Washington Redskins in 1974, where he spent the rest of his NFL career.
Theismann also led the Redskins to two Super Bowl impressions, winning Super Bowl XVII in 1983. He was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1983 and was a two-time Pro Bowl selection. Thereafter, he retired after the 1985 season with a career record of 77-47 as a starter and 25,206 passing yards, and 160 touchdowns.
