In 1990, he was cast as Danny Nash, the son of the lead character played by Robert Urich, on the NBC comedy American Dreamer; the following season, he was a regular cast member on the ABC sitcom Billy, a spin-off from Head of the Class.
In 1991, he appeared in one episode of Blossom alongside his future The Big Bang Theory co-star Mayim Bialik. In A Family Torn Apart, a 1993 TV movie based on a true story about a serial killer, he played a young delinquent.

After a few more guest appearances, Galecki was named a permanent Roseanne cast member beginning in the fall of 1992, following the cancellation of Billy. He would play David Healy until the end of Roseanne’s run in 1997, with the character eventually marrying Darlene and having two children with her.
On The Big Bang Theory, Galecki’s character would also have a brief relationship with Gilbert’s character. Galecki also appeared in the Dave Matthews Band’s “Satellite” music video in 1995.
Following the end of Roseanne, Galecki appeared in a number of films, including the 1997 summer slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer (as the killer’s first victim), Bean (1997), The Opposite of Sex (1998), Bounce (2000), and Vanilla Sky (2000). (2001).
He played a larger role in the 1997 film Suicide Kings and the 2003 comedy thriller Bookies, about four college students. Galecki played a golfer in the 2005 episode “Stole Beer from a Golfer” of My Name Is Earl. Galecki portrayed Mark Corrigan in a pilot for a US adaptation of the British sitcom Peep Show in 2005.
On TBS’s My Boys, he played Trouty, and in Hope & Faith, he played the half-brother of the main characters, sisters Hope Shanowski and Faith Fairfield. In 2006, Galecki played Alex, a male prostitute, in Douglas Carter Beane’s play The Little Dog Laughed at Second Stage Theater.
He reprised his role for the play’s Broadway run at the Cort Theatre in late 2006 and early 2007. “At its core, the play is about what we all sacrifice to be successful, whatever our careers or goals,” Galecki said at the time. Galecki won a Theater World Award for his performance in the play, which was a commercial and critical success.

Galecki was initially asked to play Sheldon Cooper, but he felt he was better suited to play Leonard, and Sheldon’s role was eventually given to Jim Parsons.
