Johnny is an American evangelical Christian author, pastor, and former president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Previously, he was the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Woodstock in Woodstock, Georgia. Johnny is also a proud member and an active participant of the Lumbee Native Indian tribe that is mainly based in North Carolina. 

He was also an alcoholic and gambler at a young age, dropping out of school at 16 and managing a pool room. Hunt experienced a radical conversion to Christianity during this time, which he details in his book, Out of the Poolroom. After his conversion, he was mentored by several men from his home church in Wilmington, North Carolina, and came to the realization that God had called him to ministry.

Johnny has held ministry positions at Lavonia Baptist Church, Mooresboro, North Carolina, Falls Baptist Church in Wake Forest, North Carolina, Longleaf Baptist Church, Wilmington, North Carolina, and at his present church, the First Baptist Church in Woodstock, Georgia, from 1986 to the present. First Baptist Woodstock is one of the largest churches in the United States. Under his ministry, the church has grown from about 1,000 to more than 19,000 members.

John Roberts III, president, and CEO of Lowell-based carrier J.B. Hunt Transport Services received a 5.3% salary increase and will earn a base salary of $890,000 for 2019, according to a proxy statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. His salary rose 2.4% to $845,000 in 2018, from $825,000 in 2017.

J.B. Hunt on Friday (March 8) filed the proxy statement, which included salary information on company executives and directors and details on its shareholder’s meeting. The salaries for Roberts and four other company executives were approved in January.

J.B. Hunt has set its annual shareholders’ meeting for 10 a.m. April 18 at the company’s headquarters, 615 J.B. Hunt Corporate Drive in Lowell, and shareholders will vote on one stockholder proposal related to political contributions and supported by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters General Fund.
