The debut album of the singer Johnny Rivers Live at the Whisky A Go-Go and reached #12. The album sold more than one million copies. Johnny remembered that his most requested live song then was “Memphis”, which reached #2 on Cash Box on 4–11 July 1964 and also on the Hot 100 on 11–18 July 1964.
Rivers released a number of albums in the 1970s but they did not perform well. His song Blue Suede Shoes reached the top 40 Billboard Hot Kings and his song Swayin to the Music reached the top 10 in 1977.
On 9 April 9, 2017, Rivers performed a song, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, at the funeral for Chuck Berry, at The Pageant, in St. Louis, Missouri.
