    Dean Blandino Early Career Experiences

    Blandino started his officiating career as a high school football official in California. He also began as a line judge and worked his way up to become a referee. After several years of officiating high school football, he started officiating college football games where he started in Division III and worked his way up to Division I.

    However, he landed an internship with the NFL’s officiating department in 1994 and spent the summer working with the league’s officials and learning the ins and outs of the NFL rulebook. In 1998, Blandino was employed by the NFL as an instant replay helper. He also performed in the replay booth during games, helping the officials make the correct calls.

    Blandino was also advanced to the role of supervisor of officials in 2009. In this role, he was accountable for managing and assessing the performance of the league’s officials. In 2013, he was promoted to the position of vice president of officiating.
