Abdo was born on 8 September 1981, in Manchester, England. She is of Guyanese descent through her maternal grandmother. Abdo attended Christ the King School, Manchester, and Withington Girls’ School.

At 17, Abdo moved to Spain, where she learned Spanish, and took her high school diploma. She attained a BA in European languages from the University of Salford and studied translation and interpreting at the University of Málaga. Furthermore, Abdo took a hiatus from her studies to live in France and Germany.

Rise to Fame

From 2006 to 2007, Abdo worked as a production assistant for Goal! The Bundesliga Magazine, concurrently was a sports news presenter at Deutsche Welle until 2009, where she hosted sports coverage for their English and German language services. Later, she went to CNN, where she anchored the World Sports program daily. 

Abdo exited CNN to enter Sky Sports News HD in Germany, where she worked as the head anchor before being loaned to Fox Sports to host their coverage of the Women’s World Cup in 2015. She subsequently took up a permanent offer from Fox to relocate to the US and host their Bundesliga, Europa League, Champions League, World Cup, and FA Cup coverage.

In August 2020, after CBS Sports took over UEFA Champions League broadcasting rights in the United States, Abdo became the broadcaster’s first employee to present UEFA Champions League Today. The show, anchored by Abdo and featuring Micah Richards, Thierry Henry, and Jamie Carragher, earned widespread critical praise.
