Memories of Joy Fleming
Updated On: 2nd May 2018
Helga Enger is struggling for composure. “She came to Vogelstang for 35 years. And in doing so, she has lost a lot of her salary, “says the first chairperson of the Kranken- und Altenpflegeverein about Joy Fleming. “We really liked them.” To remember the life and work of the soul-pop singer, who died unexpectedly last fall, the club invited to a musical memorial lecture with solo entertainer Joachim Schäfer in the Bürgersaal.
A Beamer, Bloomaulorden wearer and member of the Krautrock cult band Kin Ping Meh projected old photos and video clips of Joy Fleming to the lime-white wall: about how Dieter Thomas Heck moderated the Mannheim woman several times in his hit programs and during a black -white appearance in the TV show “Talentschuppen”.
Biggest hit from the year 1975
In between there were music clips by Joy Fleming, who until the last had tirelessly recorded and toured the recording studio, among them the songs “Mannemer Dreck”, “Butzekrampel”, “Halbblut” and of course the timeless “A song can be a bridge”, Fleming’s biggest hit from the year 1975.
After her death, the artist Joy Fleming, who had been home to a veritable zoo with dogs, cats and a lurid green parrot, buried in the local cemetery of Sinsheim-Hilsbach, where Fleming lived in a converted farm with recording studio. Do not forget the many mourners for sure the loud bang during the funeral ceremony. “One of the tires of the car, on which the coffin was pushed, suddenly burst,” revealed entertainer Joachim Schäfer, who picked up on this anecdote a humorous side: Perhaps this tire bang had been a last cheeky sign from Joy Fleming, from the sky high on top of her cloud. “Even if I do not believe in something like that.”
Getting used to humor
In Neckarstadt-West, Fleming used to live in Alphornstraße for a while, Schäfer said. “Her coarse humor took some getting used to.” Later, he agreed to the “Water Tower Boogie” on his keys. In addition, the guest speaker spoke on the not straightforward family tree of Joy Fleming. “You know Helmut Kohl. Similar here are the family conditions. Not entirely unproblematic, “suggested scene expert Schäfer, who had operated in the U-squares from 1979 to 1986, the student pub” Miljöö “.
Artistic standstill could not accuse the native of the Palatine Rockenhausen soul singer. Even for an old erotic film, as they used to run in the night program of private television, Joy Fleming had once sung the subtle film music – which Schäfer illustrated with a bare-skin video cutout.
Sound engineer Jenning Schäfer, the 30-year-old son of e-organist Joachim Schäfer, ensured a decent sound in the Civic Hall.
