“I came in not really seeing myself getting very far at all in the competition,” he said. “To be able to say that I won… it’s everything.”
Judah Kelly revealed that his debut single was about battling ‘dark times’. “I’ve spent a lot of time not really believing in myself,” he said. “I’ve had my dark times and I’ve had my struggles, but I’ve [always] had someone to help me along. So it’s about having your troubles, but knowing that I’ve been there too. Everyone deserves to have that feeling [of someone looking out for them].”
Delta Goodrem – who coached Kelly to victory on Sunday night – said she was incredibly proud of her mentee for making himself vulnerable to not only herself, but the whole of Australia.
“With a relationship like this you have to be connected and open, you can’t not have that layer of really understanding each other,” she said.
“Life experiences give you depth to your voice, and everybody has a story, but I think the most crucial thing if you are born to be an artist is to be able to sing from that place that helps you share that in your voice.”
Goodrem also revealed she would do a duet with Kelly “any day of the week”.
“Right now, though, I can’t wait to hear his album,” she said. “I want him to get into the studio and get that done, because I just love his voice and I want to keep listening to it.”
