Karly-Marina Loaiza best known by her stage name Kali Uchis is a Colombian-American singer and songwriter. She released her debut mixtape Drunken Babble in 2012, which was described as “genre-defying”.
In 2015 she released her first EP, Por Vida and her debut studio album, Isolation, was released in 2018. She learned how to play the Saxophone and the Piano when growing up. She was also in a jazz band and spent most of her time making experimental short films. She wrote songs and poetry and had an interest in directing films. She graduated from T.C Williams High School.

The mixtape noted for its influences from early 2000s R&B, doo-wop, and reggae. She had a collaboration with Snoop Dog on the song “On Edge” from his mixtape, That’s My Work Volume 3, in 2014.
Her debut EP Por Vida was released in February 2015, for free download on her official website, and later on iTunes. The project featured production from various musicians, including the Creator, Kaytranada Diplo, Tyler, and BadBadNotGood. In 2015 October, she did her first tour with Leon Bridges, touring through the United States and parts of Canada. Her song “Sycamore Tree” from her EP Por Vida was used in teasers for the television series American Horror Story: Roanoke in 2016.
On April 28, 2017, Uchis’ song “She’s My Collar” got to appear on the Gorillaz’s fifth studio album, Humanz and the bonus track “Ticker Tape”. She got to release “Tyrant”, featuring English singer Jorja Smith on May 22, 2017. She released this song to serve as the first single from her then-upcoming debut studio album. On June 20, she announced her North American tour in support of the album which took place from August to October 2017. The tour started in San Francisco at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, with a stop at the Pop Montreal music festival.
Uchis then released “Nuestro Planeta”, in 2017 August 25 featuring Reykon, as the second single from the album. On September 27, 2017, Lana Del Rey an American singer announced that Uchis would be joining her on select North American arena dates of her world tour, the LA to the Moon Tour as an opening act. Uchis supported Del Rey from January 15, 2018, to February 16, 2018. Uchis was a nominee for a Latin Grammy Award for Record of the Year for her song “El Ratico”, featuring Colombian musician Juanes in October 2017. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards for “Get You”, her collaboration with Canadian singer Daniel Caesar. On March 14, 2018, She got to perform on The Tonight Show and announced her debut album, Isolation which was released worldwide on April 6, 2018.
