Kate Walsh Grey’s Anatomy – Kate Walsh Greys
She actress rose to fame on Grey’s Anatomy star as the girl every avid watcher loved to hate. After two seasons as the main character opposite Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, Walsh parlayed Addison into her own spinoff, Private Practice. Now four years after the hit medical drama said goodbye to the infamous neonatal surgeon, Walsh is reflecting on the role that changed her life.
She said that “Everyone hated me, but at that time there was no Twitter. There were chat rooms, but I never really went on them. I kind of liked being the Wicked Witch from the East. Or the wicked bitch. [Show creator] Shonda [Rhime’s] really gifted at flipping every character that’s seemingly awful. It’s a great lesson in how to have compassion for people that you initially hate.”
The 13 Reasons Why star also dished on-set secrets from the early days of Grey’s… long before the critical acclaim, sky-high ratings and Emmy awards. She explained, “With Grey’s, I remember because I came in at episode 8, at that time the morale was really low.
They kept changing the name of the show. It was Doctors and then Surgeons and then Complications and I was like, ‘What a bullshit show title!’ Grey’s Anatomy is the perfect title.”
She is evidently still a huge fan of the long-running series, and as well was just as shocked when producers killed off McDreamy in season 11. “Well, I was surprised when they killed off Patrick,” she dished. “It had been so long and I was like, ‘Oh, really?’ And I tuned into that episode. It was like, ‘Oh, I guess I should watch this.’
Kate Walsh Lesbian
Kate Walsh says she enjoyed playing a “gruff, no-nonsense” lesbian character in her new film Angels Crest.
“Jane was a great role for me to play and a real departure,” says Walsh, best-known for portraying Dr. Addison Montgomery on Grey’s Anatomy and its spin-off, Private Practice.
At the launch party for the Tribeca film festival in New York, where Angels Crest will premiere April 22, the acclaimed actress describes the film, which co-stars Jeremy Piven and Mira Sorvino, as showing “how residents of a small town deal with a tragedy that disrupts their lives.”
“I loved the character, and the relationship between her and her partner was really interesting to me,” Walsh says. “There’s humor in how she’s an artist and kind of gruff and no-nonsense. It’s a really beautiful film.”
Walsh, who has played lesbian and transgender roles in the past, says a character’s sexuality isn’t really an issue when she accepts a film. “I’m just drawn to the role and the character and if it happens to be lesbian or transgender, whatever,” she says. “It’s the character and the relationship that really draws me to a project.”
