Katie Dupree is an American WRIC-TV anchor. She joined WRIC-TV in July 2013. She came to Richmond from 9&10 News in northern Michigan, where she spent two and a half years as the weekend meteorologist. While studying at CMU, she interned at WDIV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit. She also interned with the Doppler 9&10 Weather Team prior to she was hired full time for her first on-air job.

Katie is a member of the American Meteorological Society and has also earned their highest distinction as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. This includes a rigorous written test of meteorological knowledge and a graded broadcast portion. She has also earned awards from the Associated Press for Best Weathercast in a large TV market with the 8News weather team in the year 2013 as well as a meritorious award for Best Individual Weathercast in the year 2015.

Katie’s interest in weather began at a very early age. She was always the kid that asked to turn on the news prior to school instead of cartoons. Growing up, she was fascinated with the different extremes that weather can bring–from huge winter storms to thunderstorms as well as tornadoes, to a nice summer day. She was intrigued by the influence that the Great Lakes can have on weather, particularly with the formation of lake effect snow.

When not at work, Katie can be found cheering on her favorite sports teams– the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings alongside her alma mater, CMU football (fire up Chips!) as well as the Michigan State Spartans. She also enjoys exploring RVA, cooking, baking, and relaxing with a good book.
