Keith Jardine Biography
Keith Jardine is an American actor and retired mixed martial artist who most notably competed in the UFC and Strikeforce. Jardine was known for upset victories in bouts he took at short notice against highly-rated fighters.
His best wins were in contests with former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions and UFC Hall of Famers Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin. Jardine’s unorthodox attacking style wrongfooted opponents but left him vulnerable in some career-crucial contests, and by his mid-30s he had effectively retired from competing to concentrate on a ‘Paleo’ business venture. Building on experience as a stuntman and in non-speaking parts, Jardine has established himself as an actor in film and television.

Ultimate Fighting Championship
Jardine made his first appearance on an official UFC fight card at The Ultimate Fighter 2 Finale. He defeated- fellow TUF 2 Heavyweight Kerry Schall by TKO due to leg kicks. Jardine was signed in to the UFC and dropped down a weight class to the Light Heavyweight division. His next appeared in UFC 57 where he defeated Mike Whitehead, another The Ultimate Fighter 2 competitor, by unanimous decision. In April 2006, Jardine fought The Ultimate Fighter 1 Light Heavyweight finalist Stephan Bonnar at Ultimate Fight Night 4. He lost the fight for the first time in part due to a very controversial unanimous decision but gained a great deal of fan and media support after the bout.
Jardine also faced American Top Team’s Wilson Gouveia at The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale. Although color commentator Joe Rogan believed that he lost the first round, Jardine managed to bounce back and defeat Gouveia via unanimous decision after three rounds. Jardine was then scheduled to fight Mike Nickels, a Light Heavyweight competitor from The Ultimate Fighter 3, but Nickels was forced to withdraw due to a back injury. Instead, he next faced The Ultimate Fighter 1 Light Heavyweight winner Forrest Griffin at UFC 66. Although considered an underdog in the bout, Jardine scored a TKO victory in the first round after he floored Forrest then took the full guard and brought many right hands over the top to cause the stoppage. At UFC 71, Jardine was scheduled to fight UFC newcomer Houston Alexander. During his pre-fight interview, Jardine complained about being matched against an unknown newcomer, believing that he deserved an opponent with a higher profile.
Jardine was then matched up against former long-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Chuck Liddell at UFC 76. The bout was Liddell’s first fight since losing his belt to Quinton Jackson. Jardine landed numerous unchecked leg kicks and several body kicks to Liddell’s side throughout the fight, which was spent almost totally on the feet. The bout was ruled a split decision in Jardine’s favor, turning him into a top contender for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. First, however, Jardine faced former PRIDE Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva. Silva swarmed Jardine with punches and knocked him out just 36 seconds into the first round. Jardine had to be helped up after the fight and was sent to the local hospital for observation.
After this loss, he faced Brandon Vera at UFC 89. Although it appeared that Vera kicked Jardine’s knee and injured him in the second round, Jardine ultimately earned a split decision victory over Vera. In a post-fight interview, Jardine stated that the injury was minor. With the victory, Jardine earned a shot at Quinton Jackson at UFC 96. Although the fight was considered an elimination bout for title contention, Jardine and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans are close friends and training partners and both have stated that they will not fight each other. In a close fight, Jardine lost by unanimous decision. The bout was the Fight of the Night earning them a $60,000 bonus. Jardine was the last man to fight Jackson before his temporary retirement.
Jardine was knocked out by Thiago Silva at UFC 102 1:35 in the first round. He suffered his second consecutive knockout and third straight loss at the hands of Ryan Bader on February 21, 2010, at UFC 110. After being rocked by a straight right from Bader, he received a flying knee to the ribs and then a hook punch to the chin that knocked him out, two minutes into the third round.
Keith Jardine Breaking Bad
Keith was featured in the Breaking Bad season 3 episode “I.F.T”, where he played a criminal who gets into a bar fight. Long before the casting director called his name for his Breaking Bad audition, veteran MMA fighter Keith Jardine had already begun his act.
His role-playing wasn’t born out of any method acting approaches but stemmed from the emotion people would least expect from a guy who locked himself in cages with the scariest men on the planet — nervousness.
“You walk into a room and there’s a bunch of people sitting down with their papers, going over their lines. The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife,” Jardine remembers of the waiting area outside the casting call. “I just pretended I knew what I was doing. A guy came in after me and went and started filling out this paperwork on the table they had set up. So I pretended I knew what I was doing. I walked in after him and copied what he did.”
“Breaking Bad is the real deal,” he said. “I didn’t care [what the role] was. I didn’t care if I was going to push a broom on set.
Jardine landed a part one step above broom pusher — appearing in Season Three, episode “I.F.T” as a drug dealer who draws the ire of fictional DEA agent Hank Schrader, played by actor Dean Norris. Jardine is one of two former mixed martial artists appearing in the critically-acclaimed, cultishly-followed show. Tait Fletcher, who fought under the King of the Cage and World Extreme Cagefighting banners, appears in more recent episodes as Lester, a member of an Aryan gang. Fletcher’s character will most likely appear in the series finale airing Sunday (9 p.m. ET.)
The Breaking Bad cameo was one of Jardine’s first acting jobs, a list that now includes more film and television credits (35) than fights (30). He recently wrapped up a stint doing stunts on the forthcoming film, Transcendence, starring Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman. After Transcendence, Jardine jumped over to the set of Inherent Vice, a movie currently in post-production by the esteemed director, Paul Thomas Anderson.
Keith Jardine Bird Box
Bird Box follows the character of Malorie and is set during three different time periods: the beginning of The Problem (about five years prior to the events at the start of the book), shortly before the birth of the two children, and the present day. The following synopsis is laid out in chronological order.
Malorie is a college student who lives in southeast Michigan with her sister Shannon. She’s dismayed when she discovers that she has become pregnant after having a one night stand, especially as the man will not return her calls. Malorie’s sister, Shannon, has expressed concerns to her about some odd reports of people abruptly going mad and brutally attacking the people around them and then killing themselves shortly after they’ve seen an unknown something.
Malorie initially is skeptical of the veracity of these incidents but is forced to admit that this is a legitimate problem when incidents start occurring in Canada and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. By this point the visions are referred to as “creatures” and the situation as a whole is commonly referred to as “The Problem”. Malorie and Shannon barricade themselves inside their home until one day Shannon is exposed to one of the creatures and commits suicide. This prompts Malorie to leave her home and she eventually stumbles upon a new house filled with survivors.
Once there she meets Tom and four other survivors—Don, Jules, Felix, and Cheryl. Soon, they are joined by Olympia, who, like Malorie, is about 4 months pregnant. The mood in the house is tense, with mysterious sounds and ephemeral feelings being alarming. This is augmented because no one is quite sure what to be on the lookout for, and they all spend time blindfolded and with eyes closed if they venture outside or even open a door. Eventually, Tom decides to launch some expeditions to find more food and resources, and they return bearing supplies as well as disturbing findings of what has become of the world.
Soon, a new person knocks on their door to be let in—Gary. They admit him but some are wary of his demeanor and alleged history. Gary claims to have come from another refuge, having left due to the machinations of a fellow denizen, Frank. Gary describes Frank as a man who the other residents thought was mad. He kept a notebook in which he explained that the creatures were not there to harm them and that people only went insane because they were weak-minded and easily suggestible, and believed that that was what was supposed to happen. Gary explains that one day Frank left with his notebook, leaving the doors open and tearing down the window drapes, exposing all of his housemates to the creatures. Malorie surreptitiously goes through Gary’s belongings and finds what is clearly Frank’s notebook of crazy rantings, and infers that Gary is probably Frank.
Malorie confronts him and the housemates evict Gary, much to the dismay of housemate Don, over whom Gary exercises an almost Svengali-like sway. Eventually Olympia and Malorie go into labor at the same time, and in the midst of this, Gary (who has been kept hidden in the cellar by Don) takes advantage of the situation to open the doors and rip down the window covers, letting creatures into the house, (it is actually Don, influenced by Gary, who opens the doors and rips down the blankets covering the windows) which drives everybody homicidally and suicidally mad except Malorie and the two newborns (she keeps her eyes closed and covers their eyes with blindfolds). Malorie has given birth to a boy and Olympia to a girl.
Moments later, Malorie hears the phone ring and manages to answer it, which connects her with a survivor named Rick. He says that he’s one of 108 people living in a self-contained refuge without any windows and invites her to travel there with the infants. He gives her instructions to the refuge via the river, cautioning her that at one juncture she will have to remove her blindfold to steer onto one particular fork in the river. Malorie goes through the house and finds that everyone else is dead and that Gary has vanished.
