Kelly was born on 2 July 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, where she has schooled. She was born Carol Jean Peters. She attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon University), where she graduated with a B.A. in drama in 1955.
Early in the 1960s, Kelly started her acting career, appearing on television programs such as The Twilight Zone, The Wild Wild West, and The Fugitive. She had her first acting job in the comedy Any Wednesday in 1966.
Rise to Fame
Kelly rose to the limelight for her versatile skills, knowledge, and roles in the acting industry most importantly Little Big Man (1970), Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986), and Quincy M.E. (1976).
Kelly starred in the original pilot episode for the CBS-TV sitcom All in the Family, which was titled And Justice for All (1968), along with actor Tim McIntire, where they played the characters Richard and Gloria, the precursors to the Mike and Gloria Stivic characters in the TV series, in 1968.
Another pilot episode was shot a year later with different actors in the parts, but neither set of actors was hired when the series premiered in 1971. Since 2009, Kelly has been a member of the North Hollywood, CA-based Interact Theatre Company, where she has acted in the productions The Matchmaker and The Old Lady Shows Her Medals.
