Daniels was born in 1958, in Toronto, Canada. After graduating from York University in Toronto, he started his radio job in Oshawa. Daniels moved to CJCL out of his hometown of Toronto in 1980, covering both the general news and political beat. He dabbled in sports and started his play-by-play job with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1988.
Rise to Fame
While continuing his radio career, Daniels appeared on TV in 1985, with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and by 1990, he became a host/reporter for Hockey Night in Canada. In February 1992, Daniels was the primary game host, incorporating appearances with Don Cherry on “Coach’s Corner.”
For the 1997–98 NHL season, Daniels took over play-by-play for the Detroit Red Wings along with color commentator Mickey Redmond. On June 4, 2008, Daniels filled in for regular Detroit radio broadcast announcer Ken Kal for Game 6 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Red Wings.
