Amos Kimunya (born Amos Muhinga Kimunya) is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Kipipiri Constituency after he won the party primaries after he garnered 16,479 votes against Samuel Gichigi 5,999 votes, the former Minister of Trade and the Majority Leader of the National Assembly of Kenya under the Jubilee Party. From 2006 to July 2008, Kimunya was the Minister of Finance, when he resigned due to the Grand Regency Hotel scandal. Previously, he was the Minister of Lands and Settlement.

Amos Kimunya Family
Kimunya is the son of the late Mzee Samuel Kimunya Gikang’ a and Widow Maria Muthoni Kimunya. The late Mzee Samuel Kimunya Gikang’ a, aged 86, passed away on 4th July 2011 at a Nairobi hospital following a short illness and was laid to rest at his Kabati village in Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County, on July 11th, 2011.

The Head of State described the deceased as a generous, supportive, and humble person who answered the calls of those who needed his assistance. President Kibaki said although the late Mzee is physically gone the values he cherished will still remain with all those who loved him.
He as well urged the family to be strong and prayed to God to grant the soul of the late Samuel eternal rest. In his tribute, the Vice President described the late Samuel as a truly patriotic and focused leader who sacrificed a lot for the sake of the country’s independence.
“We honor and treasurer the contribution he made for this country so that we could be free today. Let us honor all the other freedom fighters who gave us this great nation,” he said.
He said the sending off of the late Mzee Kimunya coincides with the birth of Africa’s newest state the South Sudan which has lost about 2 million people during the civil war. The Requiem Mass was celebrated by Bishop Luigi Piairo of Nyahururu Catholic Diocese.

Amos Kimunya worked for the private firm of Carr Stanyer Gitau and Company as a CPA from 1986 to 1993, rising to the position of a senior manager. In 1990 he was seconded to Neville Russel Chartered Accountants in London for two years. He qualified as a certified public secretary in 1992. Two years later, Amos Kimunya founded Finmans Consulting in Nairobi.
In 1997 the company merged with Matrix and became known as Matrix Development Consultants. Kimunya was a director and consultant from 1998 until 2003, specializing in financial management and related consulting with a special focus on the development sector.
Kimunya is a past chairman of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, director at the Kenya College of Accountancy, member, National Year 2000 Steering Committee, convened to address the Y2K millennium bug, a council member of the Association of Professional Societies in East Africa, and the convenor of its finance and general purposes committee.
