Nyeri County Governor: Nderitu Gachagua
Nderitu Gachagua is a Kenyan politician. He is the current governor of Nyeri county. He became the governor after winning the 2013 gubernatorial elections. Before he vied for governors position he was serving as the Member of parliament for Mathira constituency.
Early Life and Education
Nderitu was born on 29th July 1953. Nderitu Gachagua holds a degree in Building economics from the University of Nairobi.
Work and Plans
He is a former member of Parliament of Mathira Constituency. He has pledged to ensure that an elaborate policy and legislative framework is put in place in the county and that key stakeholders from various sectors including education, trade, transport, tourism, hospitality and civil society organizations are included in making key decisions. He also plans to ensure social justice through gender representation and inclusion of persons with disabilities and minorities. His program focusses on agriculture with an aim of increasing the wealth of farmers and to generate employment for young and growing citizens, ensuring adequate provision of water in the county with an aim of actuallizing irrigation potential in order to reduce over reliance on rain-fed agricultural, improving sanitation in major urban centres, developing infrastructure to facilitate movement of goods and people with an aim of increasing trade and production, supporting education to improve completion, retention and transition rates, improving maternal healthcare to ensure that child mortality is reduced, looking at ways of reducing multiple licenses for traders and adding value to coffee and improving marketing of the same. In Kenya’s 2013 general election, Nderitu vied in the gubernatorial elections, winning as Governor of Nyeri County, alongside Deputy Governor Wamathai Samwel Githaiga. He was elected on a GNU party ticket.
