Oldarpoi Mara Community Camp
Oldarpoi Mara Community Camp is owned and managed by the local Maasai community. it aims to bring transformational development, both socially and economically, to local Maasai communities, turning them into self-reliant and self-sustaining communities through proﬁtable ecotourism activities.
The camp is located 4km from Sekenani Gate just outside the Maasai Mara National Reserve. There are 10 tents, 5 with en—suite bathrooms and 5 with communal external bathrooms. The tents have verandas furnished with safari chairs. There is also a campsite. The camp can arrange game drives into the Maasai Mara National Reserve, as well as picnic breakfasts, bush lunches and bush dinners. The camp offers a selection of interactive activities with local Maasai. Game walks through the nearby hills are led by Maasai guides who introduce guests to the application of natural resources, such as herbal medicine made from indigenous plants.
The camp organises homestays in local villages, during which guests experience the traditional lifestyle of the Maasai. Evening entertainment includes traditional dancing and storytelling by Maasai moran. The camp offers volunteer opportunities for guests who would like to give their services and skills to the community’s social and economic projects. Current projects include medical outreach, teaching in rural primary schools, constructing water dams, digging boreholes, leadership and business training, sports coaching and environmental conservation.
