Wycliffe Oparanya Biography
Wycliffe Oparanya was born on March 25, 1956. He is a Kenyan politician and the governor for Kakamega county. He is a member of Orange Democratic Movement and a coalition member of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy.
He was the Minister of State for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 in government of President Mwai Kibaki.As the former Member of Parliament for Butere constituency, his area of jurisdiction had one of the best Constituency Development Fund record in the country

Wycliffe Oparanya on land grabbing
One Richard Momanyi claimed that Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya grabbed his two-and-a-half acres of land. He dismissed the claims that he grabbed the land and said he was trying to taint his reputation.
The man claimed that he first met in his office over the matter and a second time on the land when he brought surveyors. Currently, Emaira Community Dispensary and Water Project sits on the plot. Momanyi does not want the health facility demolished, but says the owner should compensate him. Momanyi claimed Oparanya grabbed the land he bought in 2009 in Marama, Kakamega County. He said he has authentic title deed for the land as proof that he is the legitimate owner.
But the governor said he cannot stoop so low to snatch someone’s land considering that he is a public servant. Oparanya said he is too senior to forcibly acquire land.
Wycliffe Oparanya on assault
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya will is facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting John Ojwan’g Waka on April 17, 2008, in Mabole. The complainant was a political supporter of his political rival.The move comes after the governor’s efforts to block his prosecution were rejected by two superior courts. His petition filed at Kakamega High Court to contest the charge was dismissed with costs for lacking merit, allowing the Butere lower court to go on with trial.
But just before the lower court picked a date for trial, the governor filed an appeal at Kisumu Court of Appeal before justices David Maranga, Daniel Musinga and Gatembe Kairu who equally dismissed it on July 29, 2016. Butere court later issued the summons to have Wycliffe Oparanya appear before it to take a plea.
On November 17, 2016, Mr Oparanya will appear in a Kakamega court to plead to “incitement to violence” charge.
This after yet another summons was issued from the Kakamega court where the charge he wanted thrown out for being “defective” will be read to him.
He is accused of having incited mourners to burn houses and cause injuries to Wilsham Malele, Emilly Maika, Roseline Linet and George Namai.” Mr Oparanya’s bid to stop the said charge until it was amended was dismissed on July 28, 2016, before Kakamega High Court judge Ruth Sitati.
