Kyliegh Curran Lion king
Young actress Kyliegh Curran, known for her portrayal as Nala in Broadway ‘s epic smash The Lion King, has been cast in a pivotal role for the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep. This sequel to King’s bestselling novel The Shining, will feature Ms. Curran playing the role of Abra Stone, a girl possessing an ability to ‘shine’ with even greater brilliance than our beloved Danny Torrence. It is that very gift though that becomes a detriment to her own survival. Thankfully Doctor Sleep reunites us with an adult Danny, played by veteran actor Ewan McGregor, as he faces the battle to save Abra… and himself.
“There Dan meets Abra Stone (Curran), and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival.” – Source: ComingSoon.net
According to Deadline Hollywood, it was Ms. Curran’s authenticity that stood out among the approximately 800 other girls seen by Doctor Sleep filmmakers. She quickly rose to the top of the pack, joining aforementioned star Ewan McGregor as Dan Torrence, and The Greatest Showman actress Rebecca Ferguson (currently in talks) as Rose the Hat.
“Very excited about our Abra… shine on, Kyliegh.”- Doctor Sleep Director Mike Flanagan
The best news for King fans is that it appears Doctor Sleep’s movie adaptation will be loyal to the book, as indicated by Ewan McGregor on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. While we anxiously await the Doctor’s arrival, it is wise to not ‘Overlook’ the past.
“Danny Torrance is a middle-aged man drifting through America in order to shed his father’s alcoholism, which passed down to him in order to forget the events of The Shining. After landing into a small Massachusetts town and with the aid of a cat, he becomes Doctor Sleep. After meeting a young girl with the most powerful shining Danny’s ever seen, he must now face the demons of his past and the demons of the present in order to save her from a horrifying evil known as ‘The True Knot’.” – Source: ScreenRant
Kyliegh Curran Wiki
“Doctor Sleep” has found its latest star to “shine on.”
The upcoming film has added young actress Kyliegh Curran to the cast, Deadline reports. She’ll play Abra Stone, one of the key characters in Stephen King’s “Doctor Sleep” adaptation. The film is based on the 2013 horror novel of the same name, which is the sequel to “The Shining.”
Curran will be sharing the screen with Ewan McGregor, as he plays the adult Danny Torrance and their respective characters both have the “shining” power. In the novel, which picks up decades after the events of the first book, Dan and Abra end up with an unexpected telepathic connection, leading him to get involved after the girl’s power is discovered by a cult. The cult leader will be played by Rebecca Ferguson, whose casting was first reported in late June.
Curran doesn’t have a long acting resume yet, but she did play the young version of Nala in the Broadway musical “The Lion King” as well as star in the indie flick “I Can I Will I Did.” She won her “Doctor Sleep” role after about 800 girls across the United States auditioned for the part, according to Deadline. Director Mike Flanagan confirmed her casting with a tweet on Thursday saying that he is “very excited.”
Kyliegh Curran Doctor Sleep
Warner Bros. Stephen King The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep has tapped young actress Kyliegh Curran in the role of Abra Stone, a girl who has the gift of ‘The Shining’.
Deadline exclusively broke the news about Doctor Sleep as well as its castings which Mike Flanagan wrote and is directing. Ewan McGregor stars as the grown up Danny Torrance, and the film also has Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe and Zahn McClarnon in key roles. Rebecca Ferguson plays Rose The Hat, the head of a cult that feeds on the “steam” created by young people who have a touch of the “shining” and her main target is Abra Stone. Flanagan rewrote Akiva Goldsman’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 2013 novel that picks up the life of the Redrum kid when he is in his 40s and struggling with the same demons of anger and alcoholism that plagued his father. Trevor Macy and Jon Berg are producing.
The Doctor Sleep production saw roughly 800 girls nationwide, and we hear that Curran bubbled to the top impressing the filmmakers with her knack for authenticity. Curran is repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Parkside Talent Management. She played the young Nala in The Lion King on Broadway and also starred in the independent film I Can I Will I Did.
Doctor Sleep hits theaters on Jan. 24, 2020.
Ewan McGregor’s been places: He’s sung atop the Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman and waged a brutal lightsaber fight on a lava planet with Darth Vader. For the longest time, though, he wouldn’t get near a horror movie, whether it was starring in one or even watching one.
But doing a film like “Doctor Sleep” (in theaters Nov. 8), an adaptation of the Stephen King novel – and a followup to “The Shining” – appealed to McGregor because it was “something I hadn’t really tackled before,” the Scottish native tells USA TODAY.
Set 40 years after the heinous events at the Overlook Hotel, the film stars McGregor as a grownup Danny Torrance, who forms a bond with young teenager Abra (Kyliegh Curran) with similar psychic abilities, or “shine.” Adult Dan, now sober after years of using drugs and alcohol to suppress his extrasensory powers, helps Abra when she’s targeted by a gang of psychic vampires.
