She considers her father the true fighter and a walking miracle.

Laura’s dad was diagnosed with  Acute Myeloid/Myelogenous Leukemia on August 14, 2008, and he required a stem cell transplant.  They found the match, and his sister saved his life. Despite the grim prognosis, Laura’s father Joseph Heinzen survived his transplant, and to his doctors’ amazement is still alive today and is beating the odds.  He’s alive but not living.  In February 2017, he suffered a massive heart attack as a result of his intense cancer treatment. Laura’s dad also suffers severe chronic graft-versus-host disease or GVHD.  GVHD occurs when the new stem cells attack your body.
