Leah Jordan is an American investigative reporter at the FOX13 news team. She joined FOX13 news team in January 2019. Before she joined the FOX13, she was an anchor and reporter at WAFF 48 News Huntsville, Alabama. While in Alabama, Leah reported on former Gov.

Robert Bentley’s resignation amid a sex scandal; a local service dog scam that victimized nearly a dozen vulnerable people; and the 2017 Senate election between Republican candidate Roy Moore and Democratic candidate Doug Jones, which resulted in a historic upset.

She has pursued her profession as an internship and started working for WSB-TV. Jordan said her experience as a student journalist, however, was within the print or online news industry and not within broadcast journalism.

This internship changed her entire life plan. Jordan said she started pursuing broadcasting rather than print journalism.

Leah began her television news career in Billings, Montana at KULR-8 News. Her reporting in Alabama and Montana earned her an Associated Press award for ‘Best TV Coverage of a Planned Event,’ and an E.B. Craney award for ‘Best Television Writer.’

While in Alabama, Leah reported on former Gov. She interned at WSB-TV, Atlanta Business Chronicle, and The Atlantan Magazine. She is a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors. Leah stumbled upon the student newspaper, and pretty much I found a home of friends and that was kind of our little hangout,” Leah Jordan said.

She is now a seasoned broadcast journalist and an investigative reporter for WHBQ-TV in Memphis, Tenn. While she’s not working, Leah loves trying new restaurants, making new recipes, and running (something has to balance out the love of food).

She also loves traveling Leah has been on several international backpacking trips and has a goal to visit every National Park in the United States! Studying journalism occupied a large portion of her life while at GSU.

Jordan worked for three years as a copy editor for The Signal and held the position as the SPJ GSU chapter president.  These responsibilities provided her a social group, she said.

In addition, Jordan added another major, Spanish, to her college curriculum and held a part-time job as a server at a local Atlanta restaurant.

After speaking with the advisor for the GSU independent student newspaper, The Signal, Jordan decided that it might be time to restart the SPJ Georgia State student chapter.

While at Georgia State University she had a chapter and became inactive. “I just decided, well maybe this is something that people will appreciate and like, and we started setting up events. It just kind of became something a little bit deeper for the journalism scene at Georgia State,” she said.

In her senior years, Jordan was selected among one of 10 students statewide to report for the Georgia News Lab. The lab is a collaborative investigative reporting initiative between top Georgia universities and two major news organizations in Atlanta, WSB-TV Channel 2and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Jordan and a colleague led an investigation into a local county commissioner misusing taxpayer dollars. Their work was published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Residents at local apartment complex claim management causing MLGW to shut off utilities

SOUTH MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Residents at El Dorado Apartments in South Memphis received a notice in their mailboxes earlier this week. “I’m so frustrated. I can’t stop sweating. I actually just paid my light bill,” Thretha Levy said.

She’s lived in the complex for about 10 months. Levy said she pays her bills on time every month, only to find the notice in her mailbox Monday. The notice said that utilities the apartment pays for will be shut off on July 17.

Residents fear for safety due to elevator problems at Downtown Memphis apartment building

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – FOX13 has received several phone calls to the newsroom regarding the elevators at Barry Towers not functioning properly. Barry Towers, a low-income apartment complex in downtown Memphis, was built in 1971.

The CEO of the Memphis Housing Authority, Marcia Lewis, told FOX13 many things in the building have ‘outlasted their life’ – that includes the elevators. Because of this, Lewis said in 2018 MHA began replacing the two elevators.
