Lisa Montgomery Biography and Wiki
Lisa Montgomery is an American Convicted of killing 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett in the northwest Missouri town of Skidmore in December 2004. She is scheduled to be the first female inmate put to death by the U.S. government in more than six decades and scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Dec. 8, 2020, at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana. Lisa would be the ninth federal inmate to be put to death since the Justice Department resumed executions in July after a nearly 20-year hiatus…
Attorney General William Barr said in a statement Montgomery visited the home of Bonnie Stinnett, who was pregnant, in December 2004 reportedly to buy a puppy. “Once inside the residence, Montgomery attacked and strangled Stinnett—who was eight months pregnant—until the victim lost consciousness,” he said.
“Using a kitchen knife, Montgomery then cut into Ms. Stinnett’s abdomen, causing her to regain consciousness. “A struggle ensued, and Montgomery strangled Ms. Stinnett to death.”
Montgomery then took the baby and attempted to pass it off as her own. She later confessed to murdering and abducting the child. In a statement, Montgomery’s lawyer Kellen Henry said her client was mentally ill and had suffered childhood abuse.
“The abuses Lisa endured exacerbated a genetic predisposition to mental illness inherited from both sides of her family,” Ms. Henry said in a statement. “She suffers from complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and to this day must maintain a complex regimen of anti-psychotic medications to control her episodic psychosis.
“In the grip of her mental illness, Lisa committed a terrible crime. Yet she immediately expressed profound remorse and was willing to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence with no possibility of release.”
She added Montgomery’s execution as a “profound injustice” and she had “long-accepted” responsibility for her crimes. She is the first female federal inmate to be executed in the US in 67 years and the only female of 55 prisoners on death row.
Montgomery is scheduled to be executed on December 8, 2020, by lethal injection at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Lisa Montgomery Murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett
Bobbie Jo Stinnett was a 23-year-old American pregnant woman found murdered in her home in Skidmore, Missouri. The accused, Lisa Marie Montgomery, then 36, was convicted of strangling Stinnett from behind and then removing the woman’s unborn child, eight months into gestation, from her womb. The child was later safely recovered by authorities.
The perpetrator is currently incarcerated and on death row, and is scheduled to be executed via lethal injection on December 8, 2020, at the United States Penitentiary, Terre Haute, she is the first federal female inmate in 67 years to be executed by the US federal government, and one of 55 women in the United States on death row.
The murder was the second high-profile murder in Skidmore (population 284) in 23 years. In 1981 Ken Rex McElroy was shot in broad daylight after residents had just met to discuss how to handle him. No charges were ever filed in that case.
Bobbie Jo Stinnett was eight months pregnant with her first child. She and her husband ran a dog-breeding business from their residence. Montgomery met Stinnett online in a Rat Terrier chatroom called “Ratter Chatter.”
Montgomery was charged with the federal offense of “kidnapping resulting in death”, a crime established by the Federal Kidnapping Act of 1932, and described in Title 18 of the United States Code. If convicted, she faced a sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
On October 22, 2007, jurors found Montgomery guilty. On October 26, the jury recommended a death sentence. Judge Gary A. Fenner formally sentenced Montgomery to death. On April 4, 2008, a judge upheld the jury’s recommendation for death.
On March 19, 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court denied Montgomery’s certiorari petition. Montgomery, who is registered for the Federal Bureau of Prisons under number 11072-031, was as of 2017 incarcerated at Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas, where she will remain until she is transferred to the site of her execution. She is currently the only woman with a federal death sentence incarcerated at that facility.
Only three females have been executed by the U.S. federal government: in 1865, Mary Surratt, by hanging; in 1953, Ethel Rosenberg, by the electric chair; and – also in 1953 – Bonnie Heady by gas chamber. Heady grew up in Clearmont, Missouri, also in Nodaway County, 20 miles north of Skidmore, and is buried in Clearmont.
