Her father also served as a Minster for Medical Services in Kenya and he was lecturing political science at El Colegio de México in Mexico City during the time that she was born. Her family shifted to Mexico from Kenya in 1980 due to reasons of political repression and unrest since one of her uncles, Charles Nyong’o had disappeared in the same year after he was thrown off the ferry.
She was born the second in a family of six children and her tradition names their children after the events of the day. The name Lupita is a Spanish name that symbolizes a diminutive of Guadalupe. Nyong’o spent her childhood in Kenya because they had to return to Kenya after her father was appointed by the University of Nairobi as a professor.

Nyong’o portrayed Maz Kanata in the third trilogy of the Star Wars Francise titled ‘Star Wars sequel trilogy from 2015-2019. It is an American space opera film that was created by George Lucas, produced by Lucasfilm Ltd, directed by J. J. Abrams, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
