Martin Collins Biography
Martin Collins is a British radio presenter who started broadcasting as soon as he left college. He first presented at Chiltern Radio which opened his broadcasting career. He later moved to London’s Capital Radio, where he aired a Sunday night specialist show for the station. He did the show before moving to prominence on the latenight show (10 pm – 1 am) in 1986–1989. Later, he moved to the weekday afternoon slot before eventually leaving the station in December 2003.
Collins went ‘freelance’ at the beginning of 2004 where he was heard on various stations across the UK such as Virgin Radio, Magic 105.4 and Capital Gold. Martin joined Virgin Radio on a permanent basis in July 2004, with stints on drivetime and the late show. He later left the station in December 2006. When Smooth Radio relaunched in early 2007 as 102.2, Collins replaced Russell Pockett on drivetime and remained in the slot until December 2008.
He has recently been heard covering the late show on The One Network and various programmes on Absolute Radio and Magic 105.4 London. He took on the weekend breakfast show (6 – 10 am) on Magic 105.4 in late 2009. He later presented various shows like Early Breakfast, Weekday Mellow Magic and just before he left the station he presented Magic Weekend Afternoons (Saturday and Sunday 3 – 6 pm) until late September 2016. Tom Price took over the show and aired it till August 2017 where he left the show and Matt Brown took it over and still presents it.
Martin moved back to Smooth Radio in 2017 which is part of Global Radio where he airs weekend editions of Smooth Love Songs from 10 pm to 1 am on Smooth Radio just like his fellow colleague, Danny Pietroni, who presents this show’s weekday editions on Smooth Radio. Apart from his weekend late night shift, he is also a weekday freelance presenter on the network.

Martin Collins returns to Smooth Radio.

Presenter Martin Collins has left Magic and reappeared on Smooth Radio. He was back on-air at the station over the weekend, heard hosting Smooth Love Songs on Saturday and Sunday night. Martin was last at Smooth Radio in London when it was owned by GMG, hosting drive time from 2007 to 2008 before going freelance then moving to Magic where he hosted various shows including weekend breakfast and early weekday breakfast. His radio career also includes Capital, Chiltern, Virgin and Absolute Radio.
Sam Jackson, Managing Editor of Smooth, told RadioToday: “Martin Collins is a first-class presenter and the perfect choice to host Smooth Love Songs on Saturday and Sunday nights. I’m thrilled to welcome him to the UK’s third largest commercial radio brand, as he joins our weekend line-up alongside Myleene Klass, Andrew Castle and Tina Hobley.” Global has taken a number of presenters from Magic over the last couple of years, including Danny Pietroni and Paul Phear.
