Mary Chapin Carpenter is an American singer and lyricist. Carpenter went through quite a long while singing in Washington, D.C. clubs before marking it in the late 1980s with Columbia Records, who promoted her as a country singer.

Chapin’s first music album, 1987’s Hometown Girl, didn’t create any singles, albeit 1989’s State of the Heart and 1990’s Shooting Straight in the Dark each delivered four Top 20 hits on the Billboard nation singles charts.

Mary  Carpenter Early Life
