Melanie Perkins is an American entrepreneur, and the founder and CEO of the popular design platform, Canva. In addition to being a passionate entrepreneur, Melanie is an avid traveler and has backpacked to several places around the world.

Before starting out on Canva, Melanie was a University Student covering commerce and communications at the University of Western Australia. While there, she was frustrated by the time it would take for her to cover her mainstream software course. She knew that future design would exhibit simple clicks. With time, she dropped out and moved to California to pursue her dream. She started her first company while still living with her parents in Perth, Australia. At first, it was a work from home project in their living room couch.

In California, she teamed up with Cliff Obrecht, and together they took out a loan to fund their newfound startup. They first started Fusion Brooks. In those times, they didn’t know a lot about marketing and customer service, but with time, they learned. Of late, Fusion Books is one of the largest school yearbook publisher in Australia with roots in France and New Zealand. With time, they realized they needed a technology expert and they found Cameron Adams.

In California, Melanie Perkins came across Bill Tai, a venture capitalist. Bill introduced Melanie to the Silicon Valley Premises. As they were three years in the business, Bill Tai invested huge amounts of income to Canva. In the 2016-17 financial year, Canva had accumulated revenue amounting to $23.1 million despite a loss of $3.3 million thanks to its fast expansion. Of late, Canva has become a billion dollar worth company with headquarters in Sydney and Manila, and an office in San Francisco.
