Rzeznik started playing guitar when he was 16 years old after being introduced to the instrument by a pal. He dropped out of Buffalo State College after his freshman year to pursue a career in music.
In 1985, Rzeznik began the Goo Goo Dolls with drummer George Tutuska and bassist Robby Takac. The band’s early sound was heavily impacted by punk rock and alternative rock.
