Ellen’s earliest TV features were in plenty of commercials, including one for Alpo dog food with Lorne Greene. She also went to school together with Landon’s daughter, Leslie Landon. It was Leslie who told her that she had won the role of Laura Ingalls on Little House on the character of Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie, beating out over 500 kid actresses for the part.
The pilot was gunned down in 1973 and was a rating success. Almost a year later, Ellen started casting the episodes.
