Meredith Vieira Biography
Meredith Vieira is an American journalist and television personality born in Providence, Rhode Island, United States.
Vieira was the original moderator of The View, an ABC talk show (from 1997 to 2006). She also co-hosted the NBC News morning news program, Today (2006–2011).
Vieira is also known for being the original host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, the syndicated version as well as for being a contributor to Dateline NBC and Rock Center with Brian Williams. On Lifetime Television’s Intimate Portrait series, Meredith was the presenter. From 2014 to 2016, she hosted a syndicated self-titled talk show, The Meredith Vieira Show.

Vieira is a graduate of both the Lincoln School, a Quaker all-girls school in Providence (1971) and Tufts University in 1975. From the university, she earned herself a degree in English.
Meredith Vieira Career
Vieira began her broadcasting career in 1975 as a news announcer for WORC radio in Worcester, Massachusetts, doing afternoon drive news during the B. J. Dean Show.
As for her career in television, she began working as a local reporter and anchor at WJAR-TV in Providence, eventually making her way into the newsroom at WCBS-TV in New York City where she was an investigative reporter from 1979 to 1982.
She first gained national recognition as a CBS reporter based in its Chicago bureau from 1982 to 1984 and later became a correspondent for nationwide news-magazine shows including West 57th (1985–89) and 60 Minutes (1989–91).
Vieira later moved to ABC initially as one of six regular correspondents for the news-magazine show Turning Point (1994–99) and was also the host of the Lifetime Network’s show Intimate Portrait, which debuted on January 3, 1995, and ran until August 28, 2004.
Meredith Vieira The View
Meredith served as the original moderator and co-host of ABC’s daytime talk show The View from its debut on August 11, 1997, until June 9, 2006. She was responsible for opening and closing each of the show’s live episodes, introducing “Hot Topics,” guiding conversations and breaking to commercials.
On her final episode of The View, Meredith’s co-hosts gave her a roast to commemorate her departure. In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Meredith explained what led her to become The View’s moderator by making the following statement:
“Once I realized I was a reporter who didn’t want to report because it required a tremendous amount of travel, nobody was too interested in having me work for them. I had to reinvent myself.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Meredith Vieira
Who wants to be a millionaire is an international television game show franchise of British origin, created by David Briggs, Mike Whitehill, and Steven Knight and is currently owned and licensed by Sony Pictures Television.
At the show, large cash prizes are offered for correctly answering a series of multiple-choice questions of increasing (or, in some cases, random) difficulty. The maximum cash prize in the original British version was one million pounds.
Meredith was the host of the first eleven syndicated seasons of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire from September 16, 2002, to November 2012. Throughout the show, she had hosted more than 1,800 episodes and offered a vast multitude of contestants a combined total of over $70,000,000.
The Meredith Vieira Show
In July 2013, Meredith announced that she would begin hosting her own syndicated afternoon daytime talk show, The Meredith Vieira Show, that would start in September 2014, produced by NBC Universal Television Distribution.
It was however announced on January 4, 2016, that the show would be ending after two seasons. The talk show, that had been aired from September 8, 2014, ended on May 20, 2016, with 290 episodes.

The board game was first published by Winning Moves Games USA in 1996. It was first republished in 2006 as 25 Words or Less: People, Place and Things Edition.
A game show version of this aired in summer 2018 in syndication hosted by Meredith. A regular series of the game show will premiere on September 16, 2019, with Meredith as the host.
The show pairs contestants with celebrities in an effort to guess a list of five words using less than 25 words in total.

Vieira was born into the family of Mary Elsie (Rosa), a homemaker, and Edwin Vieira, a medical doctor, both first-generation Portuguese Americans and is their last child as well as their only daughter.
The family lived in East Providence where Vieira was raised. All four of her grandparents came from the Azores—three from one of the nine islands in the archipelago (Faial Island). They moved to New England during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and settled around Providence, Rhode Island.
The former ABC talk show host has three siblings: all older brothers as she is the youngest. They are; Jeff Vieira, Steve Vieira, and Edwin Vieira. Their family name Vieira means “scallop” in Portuguese.
Meredith was raised in the Roman Catholic faith, but she has often stated in interviews that she has “spirituality, not a religion”.

Vieira is married to respected journalist and former senior producer for CBS News and CNN, Richard Merrill Cohen (Richard M. Cohen). The couple tied the knot on June 14th, 1986 and have been together ever since. They now live in Irvington, Westchester County, New York and have three grown-up children.
Vieira is a mother of three grown-up children: two sons and a daughter. Her firstborn is her son Benjamin Edwin Cohen born in 1989. Her second child son Gabriel Anthony Cohen born in 1991 then her daughter Lily Max Cohen is the youngest child born in 1993.
The younger son, Gabe Cohen, is a reporter for KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington and formerly worked at KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington.

Meredith Vieira Matt Lauer
Matt Lauer was a co-host of NBC’s Today show with Meredith. He was also a contributor for Dateline NBC and he also hosted the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from 1998 to 2017 and co-hosted the opening ceremonies of several Olympic Games. In late 2017, he was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior after a colleague brought up the complaint.
Speaking on the issue in May 2018, Meredith described Matt Lauer’s sexual scandal as being heartbreaking. At the end of November 2017, Matt was fired by NBC News they received a detailed complaint from the accused’s colleague.
