He became an assistant head coach of men’s basketball at Cal State, LA in 2023. His coaching job is widely known for leading the ‘Los Angeles Sparks’ of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), winning two championships.
Cooper also led the Albuquerque Thunderbirds to one NBA G League title. While playing for the National Basketball Association (NBA), he won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. He played for two seasons, 1976–78, for the New Mexico Lobos and was named to the first All-Western Athletic Conference team.
